Episode 1 of Aşk ve Taht opens with Destina, who is told that a royal wedding is her fate, while Melik Alaeddin is freed after eight years in a dungeon and offered the Seljuk throne by Emir Ayaba. In Konya, Ummuhan Hatun, Melike Hatun and the rival women of the harem prepare for his arrival, and his brother Celaleddin rides toward the capital with an army. From the Dungeon to the Throne
Emir Ayaba visits Alaeddin in his cell and tells him that Sultan Izzeddin has died. He did not come to bring death, he says, but power. The Emirs have chosen Alaeddin, on one condition from Tugrul Shah: he must marry Melike Hatun. Alaeddin first says he will not accept a throne given with a condition, but Ayaba warns that the Crusaders are already sharpening their swords. Alaeddin accepts and is reunited with his loyal companions Mubaris, Sokmen and Ayaz. He also asks Ayaz to find the girl with emerald-green eyes and golden hair who once helped him.
Rivals Gather Around Konya
Celaleddin is furious when he learns that Izzeddin is dead, and he heads for Konya with his army. In Kalonoros, Arakel, Kleo and their father plan to pressure the new Sultan, while Destina decides to go to Konya in secret to see Alaeddin for herself. At the first council, Alaeddin dismisses Vizier Residuddin and names Kutluboga in his place. When the envoy of Kalonoros demands nothing less than loyalty and tribute, Alaeddin answers with a warning and sends a caged sparrow back to the lord of Kalonoros as his reply.

The Golden-Haired Girl and the Harem
Alaeddin’s men search Konya for a girl with golden hair and green eyes after a woman stopped a man dressed like the Sultan in the street. The search leads them to an inn, where the girl and her companion escape over a balcony. Inside the palace, Ummuhan Hatun, Nurcihan Hatun and Melike Hatun quarrel over who rules the harem, and Ummuhan sends a servant named Anna to the Sultan’s chambers. Ayaba and Celaleddin begin to plot, and a dangerous ride toward Corak valley sets up the closing minutes.
