A Village Struggling to Breathe
The poison in the water tank spreads fast. People feel shortness of breath and weakness, and some collapse. Iso faints, and Hicran and the doctors work with atropine and pralidoxime while ambulances are stuck at a pileup in Arakli. Serif arrives with about thirty armed men in eight cars and takes Esme, who is also affected. Adil learns which car she is in, and Uncle Bekir’s truck becomes part of the plan. Afterward the villagers are warned not to drink tap water, and tankers bring clean supplies.
Eleni and Oruc, Against the Clock
Eleni becomes the quiet hero of the day. Hidir tells her she saved the whole village. Oruc, who was poisoned too, wakes to learn that only one atropine was left and that it went to him. Their talk soon turns lighter. Eleni asks about a woman named Canan who called Oruc ‘dear’ on the phone, and he explains that Canan is his sister-in-law. Meanwhile Adil’s ambush on the road stops the convoy, and Serif’s men are tied up.
