“Duties do not determine positions, Aykurt.”
Episode 2 of Kuruluş Orhan picks up right after the council. Osman Bey has named Alaeddin to lead the beylic and Sahinshah Bey to command the army, while Orhan, who was away from the council, loses his duty. Malhun Hatun speaks out for her son, Halime is told to stay in the tribe, and Osman Bey collapses with fever as Temurtas Noyan calls the Beys to a meeting. Meanwhile, Bursa is still under siege.
A Council Decision Splits the Family
Osman Bey has already made his choice. Alaeddin leads the beylic, Sahinshah Bey commands the army, and Orhan is told he is just an alp from now on. Orhan was away from the council, which Osman says was the wrong time to leave. Malhun Hatun asks the Beys why no one defended Orhan to his face. Orhan returns to find the Beys avoiding him, then offers the sword his father gave him back to Osman. Alaeddin and Orhan later part ways with a quiet farewell.
Osman Falls Ill and Temurtas Steps In
Osman Bey blacks out, burning with fever, and the tribe fears what comes next. Orhan notices the doctor wore gloves while applying the ointment and asks his family to watch him. Meanwhile a messenger from Temurtas Noyan, the Ilkhanid governor, summons Osman to Cavdar Tribe near the Germiyan border. Too weak to go, Osman sends Alaeddin and Sahinshah Bey in his place. At the meeting, Temurtas sits beside Saroz and demands the siege be lifted, but Alaeddin answers that the Kayi will keep fighting for Bursa.
