Episode 50 of Mehmed Fetihler Sultani turns toward Pontus. Sultan Mehmed learns that David Komnenos is looking for a great alliance, while Komnenos goes to the Pope with a promise about holy relics. A strange box found beneath Hagia Sophia holds a blank paper that only a madman in Tokat may be able to read. Meanwhile, Shahzade Bayezid risks everything for Princess Julia, and the Karamanogullari watch from Ermenek.
Komnenos Seeks a Holy Alliance
In the council, Mahmud Pasha explains that England, France and Hungary are no threat, and that the real trouble sits in the Black Sea with David Komnenos of Trabzon. Komnenos then meets the Pope and offers the Empire of Pontus as a successor if Christians support him. His bargaining chip is the holy relics, which he claims are hidden at Sumela Monastery with the monks called The Silent. He warns that Mehmed’s final target is the Red Apple, and the Vatican itself.
The Box Beneath Hagia Sophia
Mehmed opens a strange box with twelve pieces from the tomb beneath Hagia Sophia, a place he first heard about from his Italian mentor Cyriacus of Ancona. A blank paper shows writing once light is brought to it, but the language is Aramaic and nobody in Payitaht can read it. Hizir Celebi names his former student, Deli Lutfi of the Yagibasan Madrasah in Tokat. We watch Lutfi test his snake bite cure on himself, and Vlad Tepes and Bahadir are sent to bring him back.

Komnenos returns and announces that Julia will marry Suleyman, son of Ibrahim Bey of Karaman, while the Karaman family argues over how much to fear the Ottomans. Mehmed has already chosen Kasim Bey’s daughter Gulperi for Bayezid. When a desperate letter from Julia arrives, Bayezid rides out against every warning, and Komnenos and Yorgo are ready for him.
