Mehmed weighs the cost of the Rome campaign against the threat on the eastern borders, and sends Shehzade Mustafa to Karaman while Bayezid goes to Bursa. In Istanbul, an emergency tax stirs anger among the merchants. Here is what happens in this episode, which you can watch with English subtitles on osmanonline.live.
Judgment and Suspicion in Tabriz
Sultan Hasan holds a trial under the Divan-I Mezalim. Mirza Maksud insists he did not harm Behram and says Balaban was used by someone else. Sungur then declares that Balaban was his dog and that he sent Behram into the ambush, even though Hasan had given him pastureland. Afterwards Savcu pushes Hasan to doubt Tahrani and to blame Zeno, the Venetian envoy. Hasan has Zeno dragged before him and threatens his life. Despina Hatun begs for her nephew and says he was in Tbilisi building a church. Hasan answers that his verdict is not yet final.
Mehmed’s Dilemma and the Road to Karaman
Mehmed reminds his council that twenty banners have gathered under the papal cross, yet the East also needs guarding. Dividing the army would double the cost, and Mahmoud Pasha and Rum Mehmed Pasha argue over how to pay for it. Mehmed accepts a one-time emergency tax. He then sends Shehzade Mustafa, with Gedik Ahmed Pasha at his side, to keep Suleyman on the throne of Karaman. Inside the palace at Ermenek, Ishak and his mother Hasibe Hatun plan to dethrone Suleyman, and Zeno arrives promising the backing of Tahrani and Venice.

Anger in the Bazaar and Bayezid’s Plan

Meanwhile Bayezid reveals to Lala that his trip to Bursa has a hidden purpose, tied to the Beys of the eastern border and the Akkoyunlu palace.
