In the Ottoman court, Shahzade Mustafa returns from Karaman with his task unfinished, and Sultan Mehmed does not hide his anger. Meanwhile Shahzade Cem is made ready to be girded with a sword. Hasan Padishah Confronts His Own Household
In Tabriz, Hasan Padishah says he came to find treachery in his own shadow and found his own children instead. His sons explain that they only wanted to stop the Beys who had turned from the Osmanoglu before the sedition could grow. They name Mesih as the source of the news, and the Khagan is left wondering whom he can trust, since his viziers use him for their own ambitions. Tahrani is cleared of suspicion, and Hasan reminds him that they are still brothers. Later, Hasan and Tore test each other with swords on the drill field.
Mustafa Spares Ishak and Faces Mehmed
Mustafa reports that the seeds of strife in Karamanoglu are uprooted and that Pir Ahmed Suleyman Bey sits again on the Karaman throne. Mehmed asks for the head of the rebel Shahzade Ishak, but it is not there. Hasibe Hatun had pleaded for Ishak’s life, and Mustafa could not bring himself to refuse her. He is confined to his chambers while the pashas fear what will follow. Ishak is smuggled across the river to Akkoyunlu lands, where he is told exactly how to plead for refuge before Hasan.

A seeker bearing Cem’s sealed letter is received by the Janissary Ocak in a solemn ceremony. Mehmed also gives Cem a lesson passed down from his father Murad Khan: power grips the hilt, but one eye must always stay on the scales of justice. Elsewhere he inspects the cannons mounted on his ships and asks for faster galleys. Then a letter arrives from Tabriz, and the Divan is called at night.
