Idris Effendi Chooses Silence
Idris Effendi stands before the Sultan, who demands to know whom Isfahani wished to harm besides his wife. Idris says Isfahani called himself the devil’s shadow, but he is the devil itself. Then he refuses to say more, explaining that his tongue has hurt people and that desires are fulfilled by keeping quiet, not by speaking. He asks the Sultan to listen to his heart instead. Moments later the court rushes to carry him to the infirmary, and a physician later says the wound he gave himself has no cure.
Kimya’s Wish and Alaaddin’s Pain
Alaaddin asks Kimya why she looks as if she is in a different realm, and she tells him she will become Sems-i Tabrizi’s wife. Kimya later tells the lady of the house that she may not understand his secret yet, but she knows him and desires nothing else. Sems then asks for her consent, and she speaks about the pain she carried before coming to Hudavendigar’s house. Alaaddin goes quiet, his father begs him to speak, and a friend tells him to keep walking.
