“Anger has no place in this door.”
Episode 28 of Vefa Sultan takes place on the eve of the Night of Power, and the lodge is shaken by the attack on Omer, a convert stabbed in the middle of Sferaki. While the Sheik and the disciples pray for his recovery, the officers search the streets for clues. Doctor Leon appears at the lodge with an ointment, and Sophia, Omer’s mother, moves in to stay by his side. Meanwhile the conspirators decide what to do next.
The Attack and the Search for Answers
Omer survives the stabbing, but the wound sometimes makes it hard for him to breathe. The doctor tells the Sheik that the bleeding has stopped and the rest depends on patience and prayer. Sinan tells the Pasa that he had seen the victim in Vefa Sultan’s shop, among those who converted, which raises the question of whether that was the reason for the attack. An angry commander scolds his men for their negligence, orders the city entrances and exits closed, and has everyone carrying a dagger in the markets watched. The Sheik points out that the dagger must be short, with a split blade.
Doctor Leon Visits the Lodge
Doctor Leon arrives at the lodge, says he was sad to hear the news, and offers an ointment he made himself. The Sheik declines politely and tells him the dervish’s healing is already in good hands. Later Salman asks why Leon was treated so coldly. The Sheik answers that a doctor does not look for patients in the streets, so he doubted the man’s sincerity. Sophia, grieving and worried, is offered a room at the lodge as a guest, and the Sheik asks his people to meet any harsh word from her with patience.
