Episode 33 of Vefa Sultan opens with a rose branch bent by a nightingale and the lesson that love can hurt before it is learned. The rest of the episode tests that idea. Ahmed breaks Leyla’s ancestral necklace and punctures a water carrier’s water skin, and the Sheik answers with a lesson instead of a punishment. Zulfikar Agha and his men stay hungry and short of options. Elif is stopped in the street by a stranger, and a hard exam question about the letter Alif hangs over the school.
Ahmed, the Water Skin and a Lesson in Rights
The water carrier Veysel Effendi comes to the Sheik because Ahmed keeps puncturing his water skin. The Sheik is embarrassed and offers to pay for the loss. He also takes Ahmed along to buy a new skin, with money from his own allowance, and says Ahmed will not know the value of effort unless he gives of himself. Ahmed must then help the water carrier work. Later Ahmed explains his reason: he thought a torn skin would make flowers grow around the lodge. The Sheik listens before he answers.
Leyla’s Necklace and a Marriage Under Strain
Leyla wears the necklace of her ancestors because she feels Salman does not see her. When Ahmed tries to help her put it on, it breaks. Salman promises to deal with it, but he is called away by Omer and forgets it. Leyla takes it to the jeweler herself and tells him he will no longer have to carry her affairs. At the lodge Ahmed apologizes sincerely. The Sheik says what matters is healing hearts and clearing grudges before it is too late, and the necklace is repaired.
