Episode 43 of Vefa Sultan is a quiet and heavy hour. Sheikh Vefa’s son Ahmed has died after falling into the stream, and the Tawhid room is left full of his memories. Dervishes, friends and family try to carry the grief with patience, while a dervish and Zulfikar are sent to the Corps with the news. A Day of Mourning in the Tawhid Room
The episode opens with the Sheikh speaking about wisdom and mercy. Then Ahmed’s mother calls for her son and he does not answer. Later the dervishes gather in the Tawhid room, where every corner holds a trace of the boy. One of them recalls how he ran there and hid and played, and says the sadness of his absence now surrounds everything. Celaleddin reminds his friends that the Sheikh held them up until today, so now it is their turn to stand tall and share the duties, so that the Sheikh does not get tired.
Zulfikar and the Message to the Corps
Idris the tailor sends a dervish to inform Kurtcu Agha of Ahmed’s death, but the dervish cannot go without a companion. That companion is Zulfikar, who was thrown out of the Corps and says he cannot look the soldiers in the face. Idris tells him that clothes do not define who he is, and that the two will bear witness to each other. At the Corps the soldiers doubt the messenger, and they say Kurtcu Agha has gone to the Turna troops. Zulfikar then steps forward and says he is the dervish’s witness.
