In Episode 15, Numan, the former Kapucubasi of Sultan Bayezid, leaves the comforts of Bursa and asks Somuncu Baba to accept him as a disciple. The Sheikh sets hard conditions, and Numan begins to meet them. Meanwhile the Sultan’s promise to build twenty mosques turns into a bigger plan for a single grand complex. Numan Gives Up the Palace
Numan travels to find Somuncu Baba, and the locals wonder what a Bey wants with a baker. The Sheikh welcomes him warmly, yet he also tests him: Numan wants to be a Murid, but can he live without power and influence? He is told to see to his guard’s provisions, send the guard back and return in dervish garb. At the market he asks the seller for as much as his money can buy, so that a poor man can eat. He sends something to Ayse Hatun through Husein and asks the Sheikh’s pardon for any wrong.
One Grand Complex Instead of Twenty Mosques
Sultan Bayezid vowed to build twenty mosques from the spoils of Nicopolis, and the task falls to Numan and Emir Buhari. Emir Buhari proposes one massive complex with a Grand Mosque, a Maqtab and a soup kitchen. Numan worries about the burden, so Somuncu Baba tells the story of the sightless men and the elephant, where each touches one part and none sees the whole. The scholars then bring the idea to the Sultan, who tells them to do as they prefer.

A New Name and a Site to Choose
On the eve of Qurban Bayram the Sheikh renames Numan as Bayram-i. Soon he appears in the bazaar beside Somuncu Baba as bread is shared, and Refik Ustad can hardly believe it. Elsewhere the architect Neccar Ali and his men study the land, checking the firmness of the ground and the strength of the wind. Later Bayram-i digs the earth while the Sheikh speaks of the hadith ‘Die before you die.’ A troubling dream then leaves one question hanging over him.
