Turgut Ghazi’s Lesson and a Tribe Kitchen
Turgut Ghazi tells his alps they lost the drill because their brotherhood bond was weak. He then tells the story of Tugrul Bey and Cagri Bey, the two brothers behind the Seljuk State. Cagri Bey gave the throne to his younger brother, one became the mind of the state and the other its sword. The lesson is to stay united and strong. At the tribe, Bala Hatun makes Fatma and Halime cook for their father. Fatma roasts the beef and Halime makes the bulghur. The meal comes out raw and hard, yet Osman says it is the best he has tasted, because they cooked it.
The Council of the Beys
Osman tells his Beys that the state needs treasure and that war opens the doors to it. Hasan Bey says the alps are tired and asks to wait for spring. Boran Bey answers that waiting gives courage to the infidel. Alaeddin asks for caution to protect the army. Osman says conquests will draw nomads to their lands and names the northern border: Sakarya, Mudurnu and Goynuk. Earlier, elders had told him to settle arriving Turkmen tribes and to see single alps married. Yigit Bey, meanwhile, meets Claudius and asks for gold and the land of Goynuk.
