“Lovers never die.”
Episode 15 of Vefa Sultan begins with a wedding and a morning of prayer at the lodge in Bursa. The mood changes when guests arrive with a letter from Sinan Pasa. Sheik Kutsi calls the council of elders and explains that Constantinople has been conquered by the sword but still needs hearts opened through love. He wants to send one dervish there. Musluhiddin Mustafa and Haceddin Karamani are the names in front of the council, and the Sheik has a difficult question ready for them.
A Wedding and a Cold Morning at the Lodge
The episode opens with the Sheik explaining that followers leave the lodge either dead or alive, and that the dead is the animal, because lovers never die. He then speaks about marriage, naming contentment, loyalty, love and patience as its secret. Belinay, daughter of Zinnur, is asked whether she accepts Musluhiddin Mustafa as her husband, with a dowry of one hundred gold dirhams, and she says yes before two witnesses. At dawn the call to prayer sounds. Karamani worries that nobody heated the water, and the Sheik says it was warmed with the fire of the heart.
Sinan Pasa’s Letter and a City Without a Soul
Visitors ask for Sheik Kutsi alone and hand over a letter sent by Sinan Pasa. The Sheik looks worried, says the task is difficult, and tells Karamani to inform the sons of Zeyni in and around Bursa that the council of elders must meet. Meanwhile in Istanbul, a family from Bursa packs to leave the city they call cursed. They praise its markets, roads and the Sultan’s blessings, but say the soul that gives life to the stones is missing. A Bey listens and answers them.

The Council and the Question of the Blessed Door
Before the council, the Sheik says the sword has done its duty and now it is the dervishes’ turn to make Constantinople a home of Islam. He says his strength is gone and wants to clothe one companion in the burning robe. Mustafa and Karamani each name the other as worthy of the task. The Sheik then sets one question for both: what is the blessed door that opens this path? They may not speak, eat or sleep until nightfall. Celaleddin also tells Mustafa that he cannot fit in the lodge.
