“From now on, you are Vefa Sultan.”
Episode 16 of Vefa Sultan brings the lodge’s long question to its answer. Karamani and Dervish Mustafa are each asked to explain what the blessed door means to them, and their words decide who is worthy of which position. Mustafa receives a new name, and the Sheik then gives him one last task before sending him toward Constantinople. Farewells follow in Bursa, and the road ahead is full of unknowns. The episode closes on that road, and not everything on it stays calm.
Two Answers About the Door
The Sheik reminds everyone that the iron morsel was sealed with silence, and now it is time to speak before the elders and witnesses. Karamani answers first. For him the door is the seed of the Sharia and the door of waiting, a place to be patient like a tree. Dervish Mustafa answers next. He calls it a refuge for the broken-hearted, where wounded people found a cure, and so a door of loyalty. The Sheik confirms that Karamani spoke the truth and says Mustafa reached the truth of certainty.
A New Name and a Heavy Task
Mustafa is named Vefa Sultan in front of the whole lodge. The Sheik says that through his tasks Constantinople will become Istanbul, and he names Karamani the most worthy to head the lodge. The dervishes then repeat the takbir together. Alone with Mustafa, the Sheik says whoever walks this path leaves first and the family follows. He tells Mustafa to take Belinay and Salman along. One last duty remains, and the Sheik calls it the most severe and the heaviest. Mustafa must carry it out with the loyalty he is known for.
