In Episode 6 of Vefa Sultan, Mustafa is still working at the tannery while he waits for a word from the Sheik. Celaleddin is punished and sent to the animals, and the lodge talks about who is ivy and who is trunk. Ayse’s handkerchief and a farewell between Yareli and Ayse bring a quieter, more personal thread. A guest arrives, the dervishes hold a Zikr, and by the end the Sheik prepares to set out and names one companion for the road.
Life at the Tannery and the Lodge
Mustafa is woken by Salman, who warns him to hurry because work does not wait. At the tannery, Celaleddin is scolded for ruining a skin and reminded that everything belongs to the endowment. The Sheik then compares a termite-eaten pen to a person, saying the will is the mite of man. He sends Celaleddin back to the tannery as a punishment, and later Celaleddin is told to look after the animals and collect their dung with a shovel instead of an iron.
Yareli, Ayse and the Handkerchief
Away from the lodge, Ayse meets Yareli, who is dressed as a dervish. She says she guessed he was the one who left things at her door so she could prepare her dowry, even though she is about to marry someone else. She gives him a handkerchief to remember her by. Yareli answers that when he looks at it he will remember how deeply he loved. He also admits the heart belongs to Allah and that he could not choose where his own turned.

The perfumer, an old friend of the Sheik, is welcomed by the dervishes. The Sheik tells the tale of the birds who cross difficult valleys to reach the Simurgh and find only a mirror. Later Ashraf Saadi Abdullah Rumi arrives, and the Zikr is held in the other lodge under his leadership. Mustafa also hears that he is at the stage of the blaming soul, with more road ahead. Finally the Sheik announces he will set off and chooses Mustafa as his one companion.
