Episode 14 opens with Numan Efendi and Sucauddin Efendi lost on a hard road, short of water and patience. In Bursa in 1392, the loss of the stonemason Mikael threatens the work on the water pipes, and the search turns to his son. Pipes for Bursa and a Stonemason’s Son
In 1392 Bursa, the water project hits trouble when the stonemason Mikael passes away. The order goes out that all masons must stop their other work and concentrate on making pipes, though the most skilled one is gone. Hasan Bey brings Vasilis, Mikael’s son, who admits his training is not complete. He is told he only has to say ‘I can do it’, and he is given two days to make the strongest pipes possible. Somuncu Baba also appears and talks about how a master teaches an apprentice, like a sheikh and a disciple.
A Bundle for Kuyucu Adem
Numan Efendi and Sucauddin Efendi travel toward Sis Castle carrying a bundle from their Sheikh for a disciple in the village of Hacill. The villagers call Kuyucu Adem a drunkard, and Numan repeats the rumor. Adem’s mother, Hatice, explains that he bought the drink only to spill it, so that others could not drink it. When Numan asks whether it was all in vain, Sucauddin answers with the story of the ant that set out for the Hajj, and the saying that deeds are judged by their intentions.

In the bazaar, Numan Efendi hears complaints about a Qadi who takes gold coins, and he tests the rumors in his own way. Sultan Bayezid later deals with those involved. Elsewhere, after Sucauddin leaves him to walk alone, Numan is accused of trying to steal a raft and is thrown into a dungeon. There he meets Dervish Mehmet, a former stonemason who has chosen to stay away from people while he searches for Divine love. Their talk about seeking a guide shapes the rest of the episode.
