Episode 3 of Imam Ghazali opens at the madrasa gate, where students give their names and wait to be called to the debate podium. Ahmad ibn Muhammad is badly nervous, and his brother Muhammad al-Ghazali tries to steady him. Then the questions begin, and the day takes a turn neither of them expected. Ahmad Faces the Podium
Before the debate, Ahmad tells Ghazali that his heart feels ready to escape his chest. Ghazali reminds him that words do not fall silent where knowledge exists, and urges him to speak with his heart. At the podium, Ahmad is asked whether the intellect can comprehend eternity, whether Truth appears to every mind through the same window, and whether the scholar’s knowledge is more exalted than the humility of the ignorant. His answers speak of the mirror of the heart, the veils over the eye, and the one who admits he knows nothing at all. Then something goes wrong, and Ahmad rushes out.
A Brother Chooses Loyalty
Ghazali runs after Ahmad, who says he was left speechless and believes the scholars dismissed him completely. Ghazali answers that Allah weighs a man by his heart, not by appearances, and that a question may simply be waiting for its time. Ahmad asks to withdraw in solitude. When Ghazali finally returns to the madrasa, the debate has concluded. He is told that the esteemed al-Juwayni has already left and that he should try again next year, InshaAllah. The episode shows how a loyal choice can cost a person a great opportunity.

and video playback will start on your TV.
Note: Your TV and your phone, tablet, laptop or a PC need to be on the same network. Nishapur, Tus and a Raid
In Nishapur, the Vizier and the Esteemed Scholar discuss the debate. They worry about a generation drowning in doubt and say they have not yet found the gems they seek. A troubled young man then meets a traveler who tells him that some doors close from the outside only to open from the inside. Elsewhere, Salih, whose name brings Ahmad shame, plans to intercept a caravan until Seljuk soldiers close in on the hideout. In Tus, a prayer is heard for a loved one who is ill, and Zainab Khatun asks the Healer whether he will recover.
