His prediction of a solar eclipse puts his calculations at odds with the words of Sheykh Kutsi. Watch it here with English subtitles.
A Sultan at a Closed Door
Sultan Mehmed tells Sinan that the settlement of Muslims in Constantinople is finished, yet he still wants to know how it happened. Molla Gurhani answers that the secret belongs to Vefa Sultan, who guides people from a home he turned into a mosque and a school in the neighborhood now called Vefa. Because the Sheykh will not come to the palace, the Sultan decides to go to him. At the door, a dervish speaks with a boy about illness. The Sheykh does not receive his guest, and Mehmed says he wants to know who this man is.
Mustafa, the Stars and the Eclipse Date
Several years earlier in Bursa, Mustafa lectures on astronomy and names scholars such as Jabir bin Aflah, Al-Battani and Alfraganus. He explains how the Earth, the moon and the sun move, then announces that a solar eclipse will be seen from Bursa in two days. The Sultaniye School is about to make him head teacher, and some colleagues worry about the school’s reputation if he is wrong. Mustafa then rushes after a caravan to order the book Hayy ibn Yaqzan. He meets an old man with a stuck cart and ends up in the mud without his book.

Sheykh Kutsi’s Lodge and the Question of Truth
That evening Mustafa tells Teacher Kamil that his one question is what the truth is and where to find it. Kamil suggests the answer may be known by the heart, not the mind, and points him to Sheykh Kutsi at the Zeyni Lodge. Mustafa refuses, proud of his books. At the lodge, Kutsi speaks about arrogance and love, sends a rose garden lesson to Karamani, and tells a lovesick young man to say Allah instead of Ayse. Kutsi also announces an eclipse prayer in Yesilova, while Mustafa insists his accounts say tomorrow.
