“Money decreases with spending. Knowledge increases with giving.”
Episode 14 of Vefa Sultan moves between Bursa and Istanbul. In Bursa, Sheik Kutsi speaks about destiny and lets Celaleddin follow his own road, while Belinay mourns a friend and talks with Mustafa about marriage. In Istanbul, Sinan Pasa and Haci worry that the Turks do not want to settle in Constantinople. Yareli is still missing, and a strange order from the Sheik puzzles the whole lodge. This recap with English subtitles avoids the ending.
Sheik Kutsi, Celaleddin and the Zakat of Knowledge
Celaleddin tells the Sheik he believed the zakat of knowledge was to spread it, and that he only taught what he learned from him. Sheik Kutsi answers that money decreases with spending, while knowledge increases with giving. He then asks whether Celaleddin seeks position, status or fame. Celaleddin hears permission in these words and leaves to teach, saying his way is long and his time is short. Karamani and Mustafa fear he misunderstood. The Sheik replies that understanding is also a test, and he excuses Mustafa to meet Celaleddin one last time.
The Sheep Hanging in the Yard
Sheik Kutsi orders Karamani to slaughter the oldest sheep, skin it and hang it in the yard. Nobody may take it down or go near it. As the smell spreads, the dervishes complain, but Karamani only repeats that the Sheik told him so. Then the Sheik gathers everyone and explains. The smell is the truth, and the harm of someone who goes astray spreads to the whole group. The animal is buried. Afterwards he speaks to Mustafa about a log that must be freed from its ivy before it can burn with love.
