A Lesson on the Path
The episode opens with Mahmud asking permission to write down his Sheikh’s words, then asking what a path is. The Sheikh describes it as the journey of the soul through the interworld, the interval between thought and action. Their path is Tawhid, which means forsaking Masiva, everything other than Allah. He adds that the beginning of the path is ascension and its end is descent, because their way is to be among the people but with Allah. At dawn, Mahmud hurries to prepare water for the Sheikh’s ablution.
Gifts, a Book, and Brotherly Advice
Safiye Hanim and Hatice Hanim hand out gifts to the children who memorized the Quran within a year, including prayer beads Safiye made herself. Safiye says leaving the Qadi Mansion for a modest home was hard, but that the love of property had been a calamity. Teacher Mustafa then brings Mahmud a worn copy of Dawud al-Qaysari’s work that he once wanted to read. Later, a son of the Sheikh warns his brother against envy of Mahmud, urging him to seek enlightenment from Mahmud instead.

Flowers in the Forest
Later the Sheikh holds a halaqa on being good spouses, using the Prophet and Mother Hatice as his example. Afterward Mahmud thanks Safiye for her patience. The group then heads to the forest to gather resin. Recalling how he once gathered flowers for his own Sheikh, Hizir Dede, the Sheikh asks the others to find some. Everyone returns with bouquets except Mahmud, who carries a single wilted flower and explains why. What the Sheikh says in reply leads into the episode’s final stretch, which we leave for you to watch.
