Episode 21 of Haci Bayram i Veli opens in Somuncu Baba’s bakery with a story about Zul-Nun al-Misri and a mouse, then follows Bayram through a hard lesson about judging others. In Bursa, the Kapicibasi and Ibrahim try to persuade an aged woodworker to build the pulpit of the Grand Mosque. Meanwhile Bayram walks the bazaar looking for justice, and his Sheikh gives him an answer he did not expect.
A Story of Trust and a Mouse
The episode begins with Somuncu Baba kneading dough and telling Harun about Zul-Nun al-Misri. Yusuf served the scholar for years hoping to learn the Greatest Name of Allah. One day he was handed a wrapped package to carry to Fustat. Curiosity got the better of him halfway there, and when he opened it a mouse ran out. Zul-Nun told him that he had been entrusted with a mouse and had betrayed that trust. Later, Omer returns as a newly appointed Ustad, and Bayram congratulates him warmly.
The Pulpit and the Kundekari Master
News arrives from Saruhan: the Kundekari master refused to come, saying he was too old to travel. Somuncu Baba suggests that Ibrahim go along, since he may find a common language with the Ustad. In Bursa in 1397, Mehmet Ustad says his eyes have failed and he wants to spend his last days in his homeland. The visitors reply that they need his heart more than his eyes, and they share the Prophet’s advice about spending wealth on the path of Al-Haqq. In the end the Ustad asks for solid walnut wood.

After a lesson on the evils of the tongue, including backbiting, Bayram sees favoritism at the walnut seller’s stall and feels the bazaar has lost its order. His Sheikh sends him back to see who dispenses justice and how. What Bayram brings back, and what the Sheikh tells him, shapes the end of the episode.
