Episode 8 of Imam Ghazali weaves together a journey, a trial and a secret gathering. An elder and his young companion Ahmad travel on foot, learning from animals, while a sick teacher’s companions wait anxiously for help. In Tus, Ghazali meets Ghiyath and is invited to a gathering led by the Keeper of the Secret. Meanwhile, the Qadi presses Salih Efendi to speak at his trial. Watch with English subtitles.
Lessons from Wolves and Horses
The episode opens with an elder comforting a child who fears being judged for a father’s sins. He says that only light casts a shadow, and that no one can extinguish the light inside them. Later he converses with a wolf and explains to a child that a wolf bites when hungry, while man hurts others even when full. Then he lets his two horses go, telling Ahmad that the path is found with intention. He adds that one who walks remembers every step.
Ghazali Meets Ghiyath in Tus
In Tus, Ghazali unexpectedly meets Ghiyath, and the two realize it has been years since they last saw each other. They talk about the famous madrasa in Nishapur, where intellect blends with knowledge. Ghiyath speaks of a gathering that day led by a Keeper of the Secret, whose name is not spoken among them, and invites Ghazali along. Ghazali soon finds himself among the listeners. There the Keeper teaches that the Sharia is a veil and that each person is their own Lord.

Salih offers no statement, and the Qadi warns that silence cannot substitute for one and that the verdict will be born of it. The crowd shouts for punishment as the Qadi moves toward his decision. Meanwhile, on the road, a stuck carriage, a driver’s trouble and a sick woman’s high fever keep the journey urgent, and the horses prove their worth.
