“We are not corruptors, Molla, we are reformers.”
Episode 22 of Vefa Sultan opens with a public clash. Molla Celaleddin accuses Sheik Vefa of corruption, claiming the lodge bought a shop in Sferaki with gold taken from a Christian. Meanwhile Akif struggles with his feelings for Caitlin, a man named Arion turns up at the shop with a claim of his own, and Leon’s circle meets to plan its next move as the first Ramadan iftar approaches. Celaleddin Accuses, Vefa Replies
Celaleddin tells the crowd that Muslihiddin Mustafa bought a shop with gold from an infidel, and he asks whether this ignores the rights of the Mujahideen. Vefa replies that the lodge is made of reformers, not corruptors. He cites Surat Al-Mumtahanah on dealing kindly and fairly with those who have not fought the believers. He also recalls that the Prophet hired a non-Muslim guide because he trusted his honesty. The gold, Vefa explains, repaid a debt to a young man the lodge had helped. Later, a pasha hears that a report favors Vefa, though the public argument is seen as risky.
Lessons on Right, Good and Herbs
At the lodge, a student asks about a book on the principles of Fiqh. Vefa turns the question toward the difference between what is right and what is good, and says the mind must serve the heart. He then sends the student to the forest to gather gladiolus, licorice and thyme, and to reflect while doing it. Akif, who cannot stop thinking about Caitlin, also comes to Vefa. His mother Fatma Hatun sent him there. Vefa answers him with two questions about whether this pain was born with him and whether it will leave with him.

Arion, Leon’s Circle and the Iftar
Arion visits the shop and says the old man who sold it had heirs. He demands his right, warns that trouble follows anyone who crosses him, and promises to return for the money. Elsewhere, Anna comes back from the Vatican and joins Leon, Vasily and the others. They argue over how far to go against Vefa and how much to keep secret. Vasily then tells the Christians of Sferaki to close their doors to the Sheik. The lodge, meanwhile, prepares the first Ramadan iftar it has held on these lands, and the evening ends with the table still being served.
