The Journey to the Lodge
Numan, Murat and their companions argue over the way until they ask an elderly man, who guides them to the Lodge of Sheikh Yusuf. The guests are offered a bath and a meal before they are received. Numan tells the Sheikh that he feels spiritually deficient even though he seems complete outwardly. The Sheikh answers with the story of a learned man from the land of Rum who came to his own sheikh, Sheikh Ali Erdebili, and of the jealousy that rose among the disciples.
Stories of Fire, Envy and Destiny
In the Sheikh’s story, Sheikh Ali warns his disciples that backbiting is Haram and that envy consumes good deeds just as fire consumes wood. The story ends with Hamid being told to awaken his light in Anatolia. Sheikh Yusuf then tells of Safi al-Din Ardebili, who climbed Mount Sebelan looking for a Murshid and met a Turk with a bow and arrow. He tells Numan that his destiny lies in the province of Urum, and that he should keep seeking.
