Episode 17 of Haci Bayram i Veli opens with an offer of generosity and then turns to the hard reality of daily life. The family has run out of provisions, Ayse is losing patience, and Bayram is still without work. His Sheikh finally offers a job that few would expect for a former Kapucubasi. Set at Sis Castle in 1401, the episode asks what discipleship really demands, and what a man does when pride and duty pull in opposite directions.
A House Built Together
Atabek tells the Sheikh he wants to give his nearby house to Bayram Efendi, having heard that Bayram has a family. The Sheikh praises the pure intention but reminds him that a Murid should not eat without working, and that Bayram would refuse a free gift. His advice is that the two of them build the house together. At home, Ayse counts what is left. The provisions are gone, and she tells Bayram he should not have left his old post if he cannot find another. Later, Mother Necmiye visits and asks Ayse to understand him so his burden can be lighter.
A Job Nobody Expects
Bayram admits to the Sheikh that he has wandered for a week and that the last of the bulgur is finished. The Sheikh says he has work, and that the task is to make things spotless, even those that are black inside. Bayram agrees to anything, and the Sheikh explains why manual labor matters. He lists the prophets and their trades, among them Davud the blacksmith, Zakariya the carpenter, Ibrahim the bricklayer, and Muhammad the merchant. Then he takes Bayram to a tripe seller and names him as the man’s apprentice, with an instruction to show no mercy.

The work is harder than Bayram imagined. He comes home smelling so strongly that even his children keep their distance, and a customer scolds him in the big Bazaar. Furious, he says he will look for another job. The Sheikh answers that obeying an order ranks above observing adab, and that a disciple fulfills the duty given to him without question. Omer urges Bayram to return to his work. Meanwhile, Commander Stefan watches the Kapucubasi with resentment, and the day ends at an inn where the smell that follows Bayram brings new trouble.
