Episode 8 of Haci Bayram i Veli finds Mullah Numan staying at Mevlut Bey’s Konak while his students slip in for lessons. Sinan returns with his friends, Yusuf arrives from Aksaray with a rare book, and Somuncu Baba speaks about longing and humility. A Lesson About Al-Jazari
Sinan comes back to the Konak and brings his friends with him, even though Numan Khodja warns that their visit could get them in trouble. The boys answer that they came for a lesson, not to talk. Numan teaches them about Ismail al-Jazari, an engineer at the Artuqid palace who invented an ablution device for his ruler. He tells the students that each of them is Al-Jazari and that their duty is to bring water to their own gardens. Ayse Hatun says Numan has not left his room in a week, yet lessons still make him talkative.
Who Knew About the Debate?
The students tell Numan that Rustem has not been the same since he became Head Professor. Numan then goes over who knew about the debate: Sadreddin Efendi, Rustem and himself. Somuncu Baba calls the idea crazy and reminds him of their long friendship, though he admits Rustem always wanted the post. Elsewhere, Sadreddin Efendi tells Mevlut Bey that he must go to Bursa to inform the Qadi, and asks him to keep the trip quiet. Mevlut Bey agrees to send one of his most skilled guards along.

Yusuf’s Book and a Teaser
Yusuf arrives from Aksaray to see his father and brings Numan a book, Atabetul Hakayik by Edib Ahmed Yukneki. Somuncu Baba says the aim is to light the lamp of love across Anatolia, and verses about humility are read aloud. In a separate scene, Omer complains to his Sheikh about his master, and the Sheikh answers with the tale of the cross-eyed apprentice. The episode ends with Numan and Somuncu watching and waiting, still following the trail of the man who engaged Karaca.
